Arsenal made a routine start to the defence of their Premier League title, breaking through Coventry City's defence in the 15th minute when Kai Havertz steered home a first-time finish after a Riccardo Calafiori pass. Bukayo Saka doubled the lead eight minutes later, tapping into an empty net after Georgios Tzolis' cross was only parried by Coventry keeper Bradley Rushworth. Martin Odegaard added a third early in the second half, converting a low strike from a Saka and Ben White combination to seal a comfortable win over the newly promoted Sky Blues.
