Trai Hume opened the scoring in the 25th minute before a deflected effort from Brian Brobbey wrong-footed Malo Gusto for an own goal to double the hosts' lead just after half-time. Cole Palmer halved the deficit with a low drive in the 56th minute, but Chelsea's afternoon worsened when Wesley Fofana was sent off for a second bookable offence in the 62nd minute.
