Senegal, nicknamed the Teranga Lions, have appeared at the World Cup in 2002, 2018 and 2022. Their most famous run came in 2002, when they stunned holders France 1-0 in the tournament opener and advanced to the quarterfinals on debut, becoming only the second African nation, after Cameroon in 1990, to reach that stage. Senegal also won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021.
